Hi! I am Esperanza Ruelas. I am an incoming Junior here at the University of Arizona majoring in Biology with a pre-medical emphasis and minoring in psychology. I hope to pursue my education further in medical school once I graduate from the U of A, to become a Dermatologist. I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ, and have lived in Barrio Viejo ever since. As a first generation here at the University of Arizona, it is truly a blessing and honor to be here! With this being said I was drawn to this Bio/Diversity Project because it targets underrepresented communities and strives to educate a young generation to flourish in the STEM field. I want to be that face of women of color to inspire those who look like me or who are trying to find their passion in science as I once was at their age. So, giving back to a community from which I can truly relate, means everything to me because they also deserve such great opportunities, such as this internship!
