Former Staff | The Bio/Diversity Project

Image	Siria Camacho was part of the inaugural year of the Bio/Diversity Project's Leadership Program. Her passion about water conservation and providing clean water to vulnerable populations encouraged her to raise awareness and action around water reuse. She took this passion to help put on the Bio/Diversity Project Webinar: Cultivating the Next Generation of Environmental Science Leaders, Stewards, and Scientists Committed to Diversity with other student leaders in April 2021. Siria graduated from the University of Arizona in 2021, majoring in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Environmental Science.
Image	Margarita Henslee is one of the Bio/Diversity Project’s phenomenal 2020-2021 Leadership Program alumni. In the pilot year of the Bio/Diversity Project Leadership Program, Margarita wrote and received a mini-grant from the University of Arizona Green Fund to carry out the Overcoming Racial and Gender Equity Roadblocks to Diversify Leadership in Environmental Sciences Panel Series in April 2021. She came to the University of Arizona as a first generation non-traditional community college transfer student and is now a senior working as Program Assistant at the Earth Dynamics Observatory (EDO).
Image	Nelly Jimenez served as one of our exceptional student leaders in the Bio/Diversity Project's 2020-2021 Leadership Program. Nelly's hope to contribute to the ideas and gain more experience led her to be a facilitator of the Overcoming Racial and Gender Equity Roadblocks to Diversify Leadership in Environmental Sciences Panel Series in April 2021. Nelly is a sophomore at the University of Arizona working to earn her BS in Veterinary Science.
Image	Adalee Martinez contributed to the Saguaro Census citizen science project that got people involved in learning about the long term health and vitality of saguaros. Adalee led volunteers on hikes to collect data at the Saguaro National Park, where she taught about the current population of Saguaros we have here in the Sonoran Desert and the historical conditions of their population to understand the overall ecological health of the park.
Image	Amanda Platt served as the Bio/Diversity Project Support Specialist. The time she spent as a Bio/Diversity Intern helped her to solidify her passion for diversifying the environmental sciences. Her goal is to continue to learn better methods to promote inclusivity and diversity within STEM fields. Amanda is a Senior currently double majoring in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and Classics with an Emphasis in Classical Civilizations with minors in Art History and Biochemistry. Once she graduates, Amanda hopes to pursue a career as a genetic therapist.
Image	Berenice Chacon joined the team as an intern teaching 6th graders at Hollinger K-8 school. She created lessons that were taught exclusively in Spanish and did amazing work as a Spanish Specializing Educator. Berenice is a graduate of the University of Arizona in Natural Resources with an Emphasis in Wildlife Conservation. She is working with the National Park Service as an intern at Saguaro National Park doing important field work that gives us insights into the state of the environment.
Image	Hana Boscarino was the Intern Support Specialist for the Bio/Diversity Project. Hana helped connect people to the Bio/Diversity project and broadens community awareness of environmental education. After graduating with a B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Hana joined TeachArizona.
Image	Humberto Gurrola was a Spanish Immersion specialist assisting with Spanish courses during their time with the Bio/Diversity Project. Now they work as a Field Officer with Pima County Animal Protection Services where they use many of the skills they learned with us. Humberto works in conjunction with an amazing team in providing help, education and responding to animal emergencies, primarily of the domestic kind, in Tucson and surrounding communities.
Image	Lizbeth Perez started in Fall 2019 as a Spanish Specializing Intern, teaching in Spanish for the 6th graders at Hollinger K-8. She continued with the Bio/Diversity Project as a Spanish Immersion Specialist before becoming an amazing Intern Support Specialist and working in this position until her graduation in Spring 2022. She received a B.S. in Natural Resources with an emphasis in Wildlife Conservation and now works as a Next Generation Ranger at the Saguaro National Park. She focuses her time on interpretation, where she bridges the gap between the resources and the people to make the park a more accessible and inclusive place.
Image	Brittanie Hoang participated in the Bio/Diversity Project as an intern in Fall 2021 and was hired to serve as the Student Support Specialist from Spring 2022-Spring 2023. She received her degree in Biology with a minor in Creative Writing in May 2023. Brittanie enjoys learning about ways others channel science through creative mediums and making her own ways too. Brittanie is currently pursuing medical school and is interested in pediatric medicine.
